When most entrepreneurs come into contact with business law, they’re flabbergasted.

Not like, “Oh, I knew I’d have to deal with this eventually,” – but more like, “Wait, why is this happening? What do I do?”

On the one hand, it’s understandable.

You’re too busy running your business to care about those labyrinthian legal rules! You pay your taxes, you treat your employees and your customers fairly… shouldn’t that be enough?

But sometimes stuff just happens. Stuff that thrusts you into legal conundrums you’re not prepared for.

Like, remember GDPR? That was fun! *horrified hiccup*

Or maybe something far worse happens. Your content gets stolen. Or your product gets swiped. Or perhaps an employee runs off – and takes your entire customer database with them.

Situations like these really make you wish you had an attorney!

But how are you supposed to afford one if great attorneys charge hundreds of dollars an hour (rightly so, by the way – they deserve nothing less after surviving law school)?

The only two things you can do are either:

  1. Keep calm, carry on, and hope for the best. But, as any entrepreneur knows all too well, “Hope is not a strategy…”
  2. …OR clench your jaw, narrow your eyes dramatically, and try to figure out your legal weak points by yourself. As lengthy, boring, and quite frankly impossible as it sounds.

Unless… you get some qualified help. And this time we’re not talking about hiring an attorney.

Just listening to one!

This week on the Get Genius podcast we’re sitting down with Robert “Bobby” Klinck – an intellectual property attorney…

Actually, scratch that. Bobby is an online entrepreneur through and through. He just happens to have a Harvard Law degree, combined with extensive experience as a practicing attorney.

But his greatest passion is marketing – so much so that his office would look more at home in a startup than a law firm!

Bobby’s whiteboard is filled with tasks related to platform building, inbound marketing, and sales-funnels. His bookshelf is filled with books about online business and marketing.

And his calling is to teach online entrepreneurs to safeguard their business legally – without shelling out tens of thousands of dollars for a good attorney.

That’s what Bobby’s company, Your Online Genius, is all about. And that’s what we’ll cover in this week’s podcast – among other things.

Here’s one topic in particular that fascinates us: how did Bobby grow his practice using online marketing? Our host Summer will spend much of the episode asking him about that, and you’ll be able to take away some actionable tips to implement in your own business!

And the rest of the interview will cover:

  • The bare minimum you need to do as an entrepreneur to avoid legal trouble and be protected if (when) something goes wrong…
  • The most common legal mistakes other entrepreneurs make – Bobby will tell you how to fix them in your business…
  • Intellectual property law and how to protect your precious brainchildren (that’s a word… right?) from being stolen and used without your permission…

And more.

Also, don’t forget to visit the show notes to this episode and download free copies of Bobby’s legal checklist for entrepreneurs and his book, “The Entrepreneur’s IP Planning Playbook.”
