Jaime Geffen — How to Build a 7-Figure Business, Raise a Child, and Get Healthier Than Ever (Backstage Business #10)
What does it take to build a profitable business?
Having a world-changing idea. Coming up with a genius marketing strategy. Working 24/7 and having no life.
At least that’s what conventional wisdom says.
But there are other things you can do. Underrated things like:
- Putting in the time and effort to learn your industry inside and out.
- Stepping into the role of your client or customer to learn what does and doesn’t work.
- Building strategic relationships with people, even if they can’t help you just yet.
- Positioning your brand to attract your ideal target market.
- Taking care of your health, so you can always do your best work.
- Building your business to support your life, not the other way around.
Sure, they don’t sound nearly as impressive. But if you focus on these simple things (I said “simple” — not “easy”), you’ll find that they create better results long-term.
Because they don’t rely on superhuman productivity or out-of-this-world genius…
…and they don’t leave you burned out in the process. That’s a huge plus in my book!
One of my favorite things about hosting Backstage Business is that I get to introduce you to business owners who succeed on their own terms. They zig when others zag. They refuse to fit in with the “cool kids” and create their own version of the entrepreneurial dream.
That’s why I’m so thrilled to bring your today’s guest — Jaime Geffen from Geffen Events!
Jaime and I go waaay back. We became friends in high school, and we’ve kept in touch ever since.
So I was lucky enough to see her business journey from the very beginning! Jaime worked her way up from an office temp at Sony Pictures Television all the way to Event Director. She spent almost 10 years with Sony, learning the ins and outs of the business…
…until she struck out on her own in 2010 and co-founded an event planning company called YourBASH! In 2017, Jaime’s business partner moved states to build another business, and she became the sole owner of the company.
So Jaime rebranded YourBASH! into Geffen Events and focused on creating one-of-a-kind corporate events.
Since then, she has worked with Disney, Amazon, Netflix, DreamWorks, and many other huge brands. Retreats, conferences, premieres, charity events, press junkets… you name it, Geffen Events has done it!
(In the interview, I asked Jaime how she managed to land so many big-name clients so quickly — and she reveals exactly how she did it.)
But even more impressively, Jaime achieved all this while raising a son and learning to exercise, eat and live healthy. Those things are difficult to pull off at the best of times, much less when you’re the sole owner of a fast-growing business!
We dive deep into these topics as well, and examine how Jaime’s personal transformation helped her to become a better entrepreneur.
Plus, in this week’s episode you will learn:
- How Jaime used to market her event business — and how she approaches it now…
- Practical tips for fitting exercise into your life (especially when you’re busy)…
- Jaime’s approach to choosing clients, and how she positioned Geffen Events…
Talking to Jaime inspired me to look at my own life and business and ask myself how I can take it to the next level — I hope our conversation will do the same for you. Enjoy!
