Just how powerful is a good story?

Well, there are a few ways to think about it.

You can look at Apple, the first trillion-dollar company, and its obsession with story…

You can examine the oldest stories around – myths and folklore, and how they’ve endured for thousands of years…

You can look at blockbuster films that made billions at the box office…

…or you can look at a super-successful digital agency that launched hundreds of companies from obscurity and into prosperity using the same tool: visual storytelling.

And, for once, we aren’t even talking about The Draw Shop!

No, the agency in question is the brainchild of today’s guest on the Get Genius podcast – Maury Rogow.

Maury is the Founder and CEO of Rip Media – a digital marketing company he started 8 years ago in an effort to help startups increase their sales faster. As far as we’re concerned, the work Maury and Rip Media are doing is a shining example of the most persuasive, consistently creative yet functional story-driven marketing out there.

(Can you tell that we’re fans?)

Beyond his keen sense of story and marketing mastery, Maury’s own biography is an inspiration to any entrepreneur out there, budding or veteran. See for yourself:

  • Back in the early days of the dotcom craze, he started by building a software company from the ground up and striking a deal with Cisco to sell it for 2 billion…
  • …just before the stock market plummeted and obliterated Maury’s newfound fortune before the ink on his paperwork had time to dry!
  • Anyone else would have been devastated. And so was Maury – but instead of throwing in the towel and giving up, he became deeply interested in the craft of storytelling. The art of captivating an audience, explaining complex things in a simple way, and compelling people to take action.
  • This fascination took him to Hollywood, on meetings with actors, producers, directors, agents, and anyone else who would agree to share their insights with Maury. Along the way he became a standup comedian and a movie producer, honing his storytelling skills.
  • Maury has never stopped being an entrepreneur and testing new business ideas. Rip Media is one of his most successful ventures, with 400+ commercial videos and product launches under their belt.

Naturally, we couldn’t resist having Maury on the podcast – his life story alone is worth an interview! But our host Summer also took this opportunity to grill Maury on every aspect of how he tackles brand storytelling and marketing as a whole – and learn from him.

As you’ll find out when you listen to the episode, he did not hold anything back!

In this conversation, Summer and Maury will cover:

  • Two extremely useful acronyms that will change the way you think about content strategy – and make it easier!
  • How to deal with criticism from clients and don’t let disagreements ruin your profitable business relationship
  • 5 must-have elements that will make your marketing videos infinitely more persuasive

And more.

We loved working on this episode, and we hope you will enjoy it, too. So, without further ado, let Summer and Maury teach and entertain you!
